Supporters Meeting 22/6
by Airwair Diamond

The meeting was attended by representatives of both the RDISA & RDSC, as well as Jane Corby, representing the club, Pigman & myself.

Jane opened proceedings by explaining that there is no more news to report, with regard to the takeover of the club, other than to say that talks are ongoing & seem to be progressing well.

As David Suddens had previously advised the deal is hoped to be concluded by the end of this month, it appears this is still the case, so not long to wait now!

Should the worst happen & the deal was to not go through, Max & Stephen’s kind offer to stay on for this season would then be put in place, to allow the club to kick off the new season without the threat of administration.

Jane announced some good news, which by the time you read these notes, (I blame the typist!!) should be on the official website. You may remember the Shirts for Skoppe appeal that was being promoted recently, where supporters were asked to donate their old football shirts, well R&DFC have won. Beating the likes of Man United, etc!

This should lead to a good bit of national press coverage & promote R&DFC well. Thanks go to all those that sent in their old football shirts to the appeal.

You will have seen Pigman’s request for the supporters to help cover the shortfall required to take the whole squad to the Isle of Man tournament. This is going to be a very important time for the new squad to gel & hopefully build a good team spirit, it would be a shame if a few of the squad had to be left behind. Some kind offers have already come in from the supporters clubs, but we also have the chance to do our bit. Pigman’s thread on the message board will explain more.

To help generate some money there will be a raffle in Strikers bar this Thursday during the England V Portugal match. So if you are going down to Strikers take a couple of extra quid with you & you could go home with some R&DFC goodies!!

The club thanked all those that have taken part in the maintenance carried out to date, however there is still a lot to do.

This Sunday 27/6/04 from 2p.m. onwards the club has asked if volunteers could assist with seat cleaning within the main stadium. The idea is to concentrate on cleaning the seats this Sunday & then weeding, etc can be carried out during the evenings in the week. For those of you that have not seen the new pitch yet, this is a good opportunity to see just how well the new playing surface has taken!

The club really does need our help with the above & if you can offer even 1 hour of your time it will be appreciated. Now is the time for us all to wake up to the fact that we are now in the real world of football & our help as well as our support is vital to ensure the future of the club that we follow.

Please contact Jane Corby if you can help on Sunday or in the evenings, jane.corby@airwair.co.uk or 01933 652000. This is your chance to show how passionate you are for your club! Thanks to all those that have volunteered to date.

Another reminder that Saturday the 10th July will see Nene Park host this areas Sport Relief activities.

There will be a lot of events taking place on the day with some 24 hour events running from the night before. The RDISA have pledged their support by putting on their football stall. Ernie has even offered to bring the squad in for a public training session, obviously you will be expected to make a small donation to Sport Relief to get to see the lads go through their paces on Pitch 2. The times will be confirmed shortly. So get yourselves down there & enjoy the fun.

This day promises to be a good event & is a chance to promote R&DFC & Nene Parks excellent facilities. Due to the number of visitors expected, the club have asked if volunteers could spare a few hours to help direct visitors around the facilities & to help with some of the stalls throughout the day, etc. Again if you can spare a bit of time to help promote the club please contact Jane. There will be a party in a marquee at the end of the day for all those that have helped!

The Dazzler members meet the players evenings have been confirmed as being on the 5th & 7th July. The format will be as previous years, with the kids & parent signing in at the Docshop at approx. 6p.m. Then being led across to the A6 pitch by the big furry one! Ernie has confirmed that all the players will be involved with half of the squad attending at each evening. These are excellent events & if you are invited to go please confirm your attendance by return. This is your chance to see the managerial skills of Mark Stringer, as previously he has led proceedings!?

The invites for this event are currently being sent out & as explained on the official website there has been a small problem with the data base, but all is being sorted.

The Dazzler membership this year will entitle the little ones to be entered into a draw to become Dazzlers assistant at the home matches.

The home kit launch will take place in the Docshop at 3p.m. on Thursday 29th July, the Doc shop will be staying open late that evening to allow those at work to get their shirt before the first friendly the following night. There will be a couple of the players there to help sell the shirts, sign autographs, etc. The ticket office will also be open to enable you to get your tickets for the friendlies if you haven’t already got them, by then.

The away kit launch may not take place until mid to late August, this is as a result of the delay in the takeover. The players will have an advanced batch delivered in time for the season though!

The club will also have the credit card facilities re-established by this time, so your plastic can take a hammering!!

Another reminder that both the pre-season friendlies kick off at 7:30p.m. It still cannot be confirmed wether season ticket holders will get these matches for free, at a reduced rate, or have to pay in full, but please understand the reason why we may have to pay for them. The club has now to be run as a business, without maximizing it’s income it could go out of business! Peterborough fans are having to pay £16 for each of their 3 friendlies, we’re now in the real world folks!

Loyalty points collected throughout the season must be exchanged for vouchers by the end of this month. They can be exchanged in the ticket office & can be redeemed against purchases in the Docshop or against the purchase of your season ticket.

I now have the framed picture of Duane Darby with the fans, taken at the last match of the season. This will be forwarded onto Duane when he is back from holiday. Thanks to all those that contributed, after paying for the picture & framing the remaining money has been donated to the club. Thanks also to Paul Redding for sorting it out for us.

The picture has come out very well & orders can be placed for them in the Docshop, they are £6.99 for a decent sized print & I thoroughly recommend anyone in the pictures to get a copy!

The mascot package for next season is currently being finalised & will be published shortly. Anyone interested in their kids being a mascot should contact, can you guess who?………………..Yes you got it Jane Corby!

The next meeting has been arranged for a couple of weeks time, hopefully by then we shall all now who our new owners are.

If anybody can offer any sponsorship for the club for the Isle of Man tournament, or for the youth teams, or youth academy, please contact Jane.

The club needs our help so please do what you can, wether that be seat cleaning, weeding, stewarding, cleaning the stadium, buying a share for the signed shirts, renewing your season ticket, etc. No matter how small you consider your contribution, your help is appreciated & very much needed.

As usual any ideas, suggestions, or questions post them up on the message board & we will take them forward to the next meeting.

Thanks
